| Hi!
I've been on this discussion group for months and have only seen 1 post. Is there a better group to join?
I wanted to share about Echigo Sushi on the westside, in a minimall. It the fish was outstanding and the $10 lunch special is a great deal. Mmmmm i'm getting hungry thinking about it.

| "If you look, you know which car ride to take and which water is safe. If you listen, you know when a man is being eaten. If you pay attention, you can hear pigs crying. If you open yourself, you can feel your enemies cursing you and a former lover thinking of you and making a song request on the radio. You know your own life and your own death and your own blood type. O-negative, I am a universal donor. Giving blood to anyone, but only able to receive my own. There is a time when you realize the importance of your body's purpose and composition. Its scent. Its touch. Its taste. Its vision. There is a time you relearn how to see and experience. To feel your blood. To smell your breath. To taste your spit. I taste my spit every day."

| Lunch today downtown at Philippe's. French dip sanwiches.
Yummy. They pre-dip the sandwiches! weird! Their mustard is nose-hair-burning SPICY! I had the turkey and it was yummy. It was kindof light, and the size of the sandwich was good. They have lemonade for 60 cents but i didn't realize that until after. Yummy potato salad!
I didn't understand the woodchips all over the floor...? Strange, it felt a little barn-like. The restaurant itself looks very.. old and ..different. I liked it though. It had been around for a long time, you can tell because of the size of the parking lot they have, says Druster.
The spicy mustard and old school stylings reminded me of Langers, also downtown. That place had really good pastrami sandwiches with the softest/crispiest crusted rye bread EVER. The wood-paneled decor was also a plus. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |

And so the FoodJournal forges on! I've missed quite a number of restaurants but I will make a better effort.
So we went here right before it closed at 10pm last night. Late meals i hear are great for a high-calorie-diet. Dru + John went there the night before! The first time for me, but for John, "the second time is like you're pinching yourself to wake from a dream." Ahahaha.
The salad dressing was sooooooo good, like a sweet vinaigrette. oh so yummy. Then we had 2 pizzas with J's picks: Mushroom/sausage and Eggplant/olive/sausage/GOAT CHEESE. MmMMMMmmMmMmm. I "hate" mushrooms but i ate one anyway and I couldn't even taste them. But the Eggplant piece was sooo good. Goat cheese added a nice kick yum yum yum.
I wish the crust was a bit crispier, but it was still really good. Casa Bianca of Eagle Rock still takes the cake i think!
Bonus: Caioti is apparently known for a maternity salad..? They had 2 books full of testimonials from pregnant women raving about "the salad". | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |

| Now that i hang out with Bee and Drusters a lot, I also eat out a lot more. And thus begins my FoodJournal.
7/11/03 : Houston's (Pasadena)
Yummy, rich clam chowda', rich caesar salad. it's known for its burgers, but i got full after the spinach dip (yum). I noticed all the waitresses there are attractive, to which Bee replied:
B: "It's a good date place." S: "Why, so your date can get all jealous?" B & Drusters: "Exactly." S: "...ohh."
oh yeah, people were making out all over the place there. MAKEOUT CENTRAL.
| comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |

| whoa, feeling the effects of staying til 3:30am in the library writing a paper, reading @ home til 4:30am and then getting up at 7:30am to go to class @ 8am. totally exhausted, despite my 3 hour nap today.
anyway i wanted to note my utter awe at the cinematography of Vertical Rays of the Sun.

as you know, i just went to Vietnam over the break, so some of the sites were familiar. it doesn't matter, the colors are just absolutely beautiful. the weather felt so real. so sumptuous. so palpable. i'm totally gushing over it. *gush*
as for the movie itself, i think it was ok->good. i was trying to understand it without reading subtitles. as a result, i wasn't fully focused. (plus i was so taken by the images). the film was so successful at capturing this kind of essence of Hanoi. i can't even describe it. i felt like sometimes the plot was a bit unclear. you have to keep the characters straight, because there are quite a few key ones. whatever, its totally worth watching for the visual experience. (plus they listen to lou reed).
gush gush gush, gushgush gushgush.
appendage: its inspired me to look through my VN pics. i need to pick the good ones out and put them in a neat album. they were better than i remembered. i want more ice cream... | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
